Conditional Display Logic Added to Club Registration System for Version 2 Clubs
Oct 27, 2010

A long sought after feature in the Zone4 Club Registration system is the ability to have specific elements appear or disappear based on the value chosen for some other element.  So for example, you may want people to fill in a mandatory Ski Skills Section if the person selects the Ski Lessons Program option.  This cross-element logic is a particularly challenging concept due to the immense number of possible combinations of form Elements (multi-options, checkboxes, drop down selects, dates, phone number, text boxes, province, etc,)  Operators (Equal To, NOT Equal To, Less Than, Greater Than, Begins With, Like), and element Values.  Zone4 has managed to find a relatively simple way to represent this concept on a per-element basis and have the logic universally applied on your registration forms.  Clubs with their own merchant accounts will now see the following section at the bottom of their Element Configuration panel called "Optional Conditional Display Setting".

So if you have elements such as some Skills Questionnaire elements mentioned above that you want to appear or disappear you will need to edit each one and set it's Conditional Display setting accordingly.  Click Edit to load each one in the left hand Configuration Panel.  At the bottom, in the "Optional Conditional Display Setting" area, you will see a drop down list of all the other elements on the page that you can use to determine this elements visibility.   Select the desired Element in the drop down list that will determine whether this current element is visible or not.  When you do, the area below will populate with both the applicable Operators for that element type as well as the pertinent Value types that you can set.  Simply select the option that you want or enter the value that you want to control the display of this element.  That's all there is to it.
Although Zone4 completed testing on Windows IE, Firefox & Chrome and on Mac Safari, Firefox and Chrome, be sure to test your form out thoroughly due to the relative newness of this feature.  Note: this concept also supports the idea of conditionally mandatory elements as hidden elements that are set to Mandatory suddenly becomes mandatory as soon as it is made visible using this system.

If you would like to see some of this conditional Visibility in action, you can try out this sample registration page which tests each element type and cascades down the page as you fill in each element: https://www.zone4.ca/reg.asp?id=839 Just follow the instructions to fill in the type or select the option that has been specified as the Conditional Visibility setting for the following element.
