Zone4 Version 4.1 - Bug fixes for 4.0
Release Date: Nov 23, 2005

There have been a few bugs found in Version 4.0  This update addresses the following issues.  Each issue is marked as either Critical, Serious, Annoyance, or Obscure.

  • Serious - Due to the new variable category/event system where people can register for different categories for different events, there are racer fields for EventCategory1, EventCategory2, etc.  Zone4 automatically assigns the Category field to the corresponding EventCategory field for the particular event.   There is a bug when you import a race file into a new event and you choose a new Event to run, it doesn't update the current category field.  This is easy to workaround as most racers don't switch categories between events, but for those that do, you must find them in Racer Info and reset their category to their second event choice.  You can do this by using either the quick-edit list which changes their current category, or else just open the racer and when you click OK, it automatically updates the current category to the correct EventCategory.  It was also suggested that when changing the category using the Quick-Edit grid in Racer Info, it update all the Event Category options for that racer.  It was agreed that this is likely the intention for 98% of racers so in 4.1, making a category change in the Racer Info - Quick edit grid updates all Event Categories.
  • Serious - The new sprint 5-heat-format has a small bug whereby if you advanced a racer from the semi final, then decided to change your mind and not advance them, it does not remove the racer from the final heat.  The workaround is simply don't make that mistake.  Fixed in 4.1.
  • Serious - It was found that older versions of the Microsoft database engine component that Zone4 uses had problems with a small portion of code.  You would notice this problem right away as the Field list in Set Options would be empty and error messages would ensue.  The workaround would be to install the full version 4.0 setup package which includes the latest components.  The code issue is fixed in 4.1 so it will work with older components.
  • Major Obscure Annoyance- If you are using the Raise Prices after Date feature then there is a bug in Set Options where it only displays the entered date if there is at least one Non-Category Specific Option entered.  It saves the value correctly but it means that if you don't have any Non-Category Specific Options then you have to re-enter the date each time you open and close the Set Options screen. Fixed in 4.1
  • Annoyance- When using the Import Race File into New Event function, Zone4 failed to copy the last field of Racer data across to the new file.  The simplest workaround for this is before you run the import, just add another random field in Set Options which will then be the last field and it won't matter that the field data is not copied.  Fixed in 4.1
  • Annoyance - The Set Options dialog has a bug where it does not save things correctly when you open it the FIRST time.  If you only open it once and then continue on to the Racer Info screen, then you will be notified of some errors.  The simple fix for this is to just re-open and close the Set Options screen as it saves things correctly upon subsequent visits.  In fact, this is why very few people have seen the error as you would usually open and close the Set Options screen several times before getting to Racer Info.
  • Annoyance - In version 4, the Sex field is now allowed in Startlists and Finishlists.  Unfortunately the printouts did not convert the field from it's raw numeric format of 1/0 to M or F.  This is fixed in 4.1.  As well, in Custom Reports, when grouping by Sex, it displayed the groupings at 1 or 0 instead of the converted M or F.  This is also fixed.
  • New Feature - Related to the above issue about changing a racers category, and with Online Registration payments, it was suggested that there be two FeeTotal fields.  One for Amount Due: calculated automatically and adjusted when changing categories, and options, and a field for Amount Paid: which stores how much they have paid online or otherwise.  In 4.1 this has been added.  You must manually change the amount paid field but it will allow you to see how much people owe if they change options and should help with reporting and financial management.
