There have been a few bugs found in Version 2.3. as well as some necessary new features added. Here is a list of those issues with details on how to recreate and workaround each issue. These fixes and features have all been included in this release. Each issue is marked as either Critical, Serious, Annoyance, or Obscure.
Serious - The Master File included with the version 2.3 release is missing a field. This will cause an error when adding racers or editing the Master File. There are several workarounds for this but the easier is to just download a new Master File from the Members Area of www.zone4.ca The Master File posted for download is the most recent list containing all the CCC and FIS licence holders merged into one list. This new Master File is also included in the 2.4 release.
Annoyance - The Automatically Assign Categories function produces an error when the race file is NOT a Multi Event Series and the Financial Management option is selected in Set Options. To work around this simply turn off the Financial Management option, run the function and then turn it back on. See below for further upgrades and changes made to the Automatic Category Assignment feature in version 2.4.
Annoyance - The is a bug in the Automatically Assign Seeding function where if one of the categories has been assigned a single seed (such as "1") for Seed Order, then the Assign Seeding functions (CCC, FIS, or Both Points) produced an overflow error. This resulted from a conflict between a CCC rule that says non licence holders should be put in one seed an all other assigned according to the seeding rules. If you have choosen to override the AUTO setting in the category Seed Order box with a single seed then this is how the problem occures. The seeding procedures also suffered from the dual metaphor use of the Seed Order field in Category Info. In version 2.4 there are two fields, one for Seed Order and one for Assign Seeds. This helps distinguish between how the seeds will get assigned to the racers (slowest to fastest using the seeds specified in Assign Seeds) and how those seeds will actually be run in the race (possibly fastest to slowest or another combination as specified in Seed Order). Having two fields eliminates the need to continually reset the Seed Order box to AUTO every time you want to run the Automatically Assign Seeding functions and you want the fastest people to have seed 5 but go out first for example. It became appearant that there was also a need to lock a racers seed number so that the Assign Seeding and Erase Seeding functions would not reset it. This ability has been added in 2.4.
Annoyance - There is a bug in the Assign StartTimes function when building a pursuit startlist where you want to keep the same bib numbers from the initial time trial race. For some races you may want racers to keep their bib numbers from the first race and use them again in the 2nd race. The Assign StartTimes function is supposed to allow this but the bug would not assign the startimes correctly. There are only 2 workarounds. One is to manually calculate the starttimes and assign them to the racers. The method would be to Assign Bibs and then Assign Starttimes, then at least your times are correct, but it means you would have to go back and manually assign the bib numbers.
Serious Annoyance - It was discovered a few weeks ago that the Canadian Continental Cup technical package indicated that sprint races should be seeded by the Sprint CPL (SPL) from last season. Unfortunately, Zone4 did not include support for the Automatic download and updating of the SPL points and so in order to seed the races properly, you must manually input each racers points which is a time consuming effort. Version 2.4 includes support for the SPL system and allows you to automatically download and update your race files for seeding purposes just like the FIS Distance/Sprint points system.
Annoyance - In Racer Details, the Choose Category drop down menu was not ordered by any particular method. This makes selecting the desired category difficult if there are many categories or Combined Categories. It now orders the categories by their Racer Order number and also groups and indents any Sub Categories if Combined Categories are used.
Annoyance - If the Automatically Assign Categories function is selected, you had to fill out the age and gender information for each category in the Category Info screen. The problem with this method is that usually for Combined Category races, only the Parent Categories are displayed in Category Info, and the Automatically Assign Categories required that all categories where displayed. This led to confusion and unnecessary complication. Now the Age and Gender info is not entered in the Category Info screen and so only the Parent Categories need to be displayed there. Now when you go to run the Automatically Assign Categories function, it brings up a specific dialog box that allows you to enter all of the age and gender info before Assigning Categories.
